Pride of Jenni returns to racing with impressive win G2 Peter Young Stakes

Pride of Jenni demonstrated her brilliance once again, securing a dominant win in the Sportsbet Peter Young Stakes (1800m) and solidifying her status as a true racing superstar. Described as a “freak of nature” by Ciaron Maher’s national assistant trainer Jack Turnbull, the seven-year-old mare proved she's still a force to be reckoned with after her layoff.

The remarkable mare, who was retired last spring after suffering a bleed, received a second chance thanks to her owner, Tony Ottobre. His decision to bring Pride of Jenni back to the track was validated in spectacular fashion as she powered to victory, showcasing her natural talent and strength.

Trelawney Stud's Cherry Taylor says "Tony and Lyn Ottebre and Ciaron Maher have done an amazing job to get her back and we are thrilled for the whole racing industry as she is a real 'people's horse'."

Under the guidance of jockey Craig Newitt, Pride of Jenni found herself in the familiar front-running position. Newitt, who was riding her for the first time, acknowledged the trust Ottobre placed in him and praised Maher’s team for getting the mare ready for her return to racing.

Newitt took his time before making his move, waiting until 1400m into the race before taking the lead. Once she hit the front, Pride of Jenni quickly asserted her dominance.

"When she turned down the side at the half mile, she grabbed hold of the bridle and basically said, ‘hang on’," Newitt recalled. "So, I just went with her and she picked up the tempo."
