Super Saturday of racing ahead

Trelawney Stud is set for another super Saturday of racing this weekend with runners bred, sold or raced by the farm contesting feature races on both sides of the Tasman.

The long-awaited inaugural running of the A$5m All Star Mile takes place at Flemington with Grunt, who will be ridden by champion jockey Damien Oliver, drawing barrier 15.

The Mick Price-trained son of O'Reilly, who was bred by Trelawney and purchased out of their 2016 New Zealand Bloodstock yearling draft, is proven on the course over the mile trip having won the Gr.1 Australian Guineas (1600m) and Gr.1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) in 2018 under weight-for-age conditions - the same as The All-Star Mile.

"This is his right track and distance and hopefully he can get back to his best,” Oliver said.

"He's one of the good chances (at his best) for sure. You can't get in much better form than she (Alizee) has been in and I've got great respect for the three-year-olds in the race (Hawkshot, Mystic Journey and Amphitrite) as well. It's not going to be easy but if he can get back to his best he'll be right there."

Oliver added that Grunt produced 'pleasing' work at Caulfield trackwork on Tuesday morning.

"He is not the best track worker but it was probably the best piece of work that he has put in for me this time around," Oliver added.

At Trentham two mares will step out in the Trelawney silks on their quest for black type.

Special Light, who has won her last three starts, will make her stakes debut in the Listed Yealands Family Wines NZ St Leger (2600m).

The Tony Pike-trained daughter of Redoute’s Choice has beaten some handy fields in her last two wins at Ellerslie and looks a good chance to continue that form.

Special Light has drawn barrier 10 and has inform jockey Samantha Collett booked to ride.

Later in the day Igraine, who will also be partnered by Collett, will contest the Gr.3 Wentwood Grange Cuddle Stakes (1600m).

Trained by Robert Priscott, Igraine looks set to benefit from the step up in trip and has drawn well with barrier three.

The in-form Emily Margaret has made the trip north to Wellington to take her place in the Gr.2 Norwood Family Wellington Guineas (1400m).

Sold from Trelawney Stud’s 2017 New Zealand Bloodstock draft, Emily Margaret is coming off the back of a last-start win in the Listed NZB Insurance Stakes (1400m) and will face a handy field of three-year-olds.

Emily Margaret will be ridden by Robert Hannam who was onboard for her Wingatui win.
