Te Akau tackle Ellerslie with Trelawney grads

Te Akau Racing will line up two Trelawney Stud graduate’s at Ellerslie on Sunday with both aiming at bigger targets on the same track a fortnight later.

The stakes-placed Challa will contest Sunday's NZB Insurance Pearl Series Race (1200m) ahead of a tilt at the Karaka Million (1200m).

Michael Coleman is booked to ride Challa who was a last start runner up to race rival Miss Federer in the Listed Welcome Stakes (1000m) at Riccarton in November.

Challa was purchased by David Ellis out of Trelawney’s 2018 New Zealand Bloodstock draft and the son of Dissident has run second in each of his three starts.

Sword of Osman will line up in the Auckland Co-op Taxis 3yo (1200m) as part of a prep aiming towards the Gr.3 Mongolian Khan Trophy (1200m).

A Group One winner last season, Sword of Osman is reportedly on track to add to his stakes winning tally.

“He’s doing well – he worked very nicely between races at Matamata recently (December 29) and is in good order,” trainer Jamie Richards said.

“I think the race this weekend suits him quite nicely as a stepping stone towards the Mongolian Khan Trophy later in the month.”

Sword of Osman was purchased by David Ellis for $165,000 and has won four of his nine starts and over $260,000.
