The Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra-trained Heir of Tavistock got his first win on the board when successful at Cranbourne on Friday over a mile trip.
This was his fourth career start and he was backing up off a runner-up finish at Terang earlier this month.
The three-year-old gelding jumped well to lead and looked happy in the running under a nice ride from Damien Thornton.
The race became a two horse battle when Heir of Tavistock was challenged by Empire Legend and they fought it out to the line with the result eventually being declared a dead-heat.
Heir of Tavistock is the last foal from the wonderful broodmare Procure who is also the dam of Group Two winner Hips Don't Lie and Group performers Procurement, Azevedo and Acquired.
Ellerton Zahra Racing purchased the son of Tavistock for $200,000 out of Trelawney Stud's 2017 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier draft.
